The excitement is about to ramp up at the Bay Village Independence Day Classic.
After two days of competitive pool play, the tournament enters its most exciting stage as single-elimination bracket play begins Saturday. Every team still has a chance to make a championship run, and with several Bay Travel Baseball teams earning favorable seeds, the hometown crowd will have plenty to cheer for throughout the weekend.
Bay teams are positioned across nearly every division, with several earning top-four seeds and the opportunity to make deep runs on their home fields.
Among the top contenders, Bay Village Grey (Albertini) enters bracket play as the No. 2 seed and opens against No. 7 Rocky River (Acklin). In the 9U division, Bay Village Blue (Popiolkowski) earned the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 Three Outs Academy, while Bay Village Grey (Coil) enters as the No. 3 seed against No. 6 Avon Lake White.
The 10U divisions feature multiple Bay teams looking to make championship runs. In Gold, Bay Village (Cooke) secured the No. 3 seed and will square off with No. 6 Three Outs Academy, while in Silver, Bay Village (Lydon) enters as the No. 12 seed and opens against No. 15 Lakewood Rangers.
The 11U divisions continue the strong hometown presence. Bay Village Grey (Walukas) earned the No. 2 seed and will take on No. 7 Three Outs Academy in Gold, while Bay Village Blue (Horn) enters the Silver bracket as the No. 16 seed, facing No. 11 Hitline Storm in the opening round.
In 12U, Bay is guaranteed to advance a hometown club into the quarterfinals as No. 4 Bay Village Blue (Moser) faces No. 5 Bay Village Grey (Gates) in one of the weekend’s most anticipated first-round matchups. With both teams wearing Bay across the front of their jerseys, local fans are assured of seeing one Bay squad continue its championship pursuit.
The hometown clubs continue in the 13U division, where Bay Village Grey (Jones) is the No. 4 seed and will battle No. 5 Rocky River, while Bay Village Blue (Linden) enters the Silver bracket as the No. 12 seed against No. 11 Three Outs Academy.
Rounding out the Bay entries, Bay Village Grey (Goodman) earned the No. 6 seed in the 14U bracket and will challenge No. 3 Premier Ohio (Dodds/Boyer) in a first-round matchup. A victory would send Bay into Sunday’s semifinals with a chance to play for the tournament championship.
With championship games scheduled throughout Sunday, every inning from this point forward carries added importance. One timely hit, one big defensive play, or one dominant pitching performance could be the difference between continuing the journey or seeing the tournament journey come to an end.
